My SEO adventure part 3: actively optimise on-page SEO
In my SEO effort to strengthen my online presence in Google's eyes, optimizing on-page content is a crucial part. In this post, I will recap on-page content optimization based on SEOSpace suggestions.
Prerequisite
You need to install SEOSpace in your Chrome extension.
For auto-indexing changes to Google and Bing search engines, I used PageIndexer.io.
Follow my previous posts on SEO adventures:
I conducted my ranked keyword research on Google Search Console and noticed a high-ranking keyword squarespace masonry gallery. The keyword points to my page, but it is not visible in the page content or image alt text, so I used SEOSpace to fix these issues on the post: How to Do Masonry Gallery Block on Squarespace
Initial Analysis
First, let’s check how the page performs in new main keyword: the SEO Score dropped to 60%
Let’s see what can be improved and go through them one by one:
Heading
Content
Image alt text
URL
Heading
First, I updated the heading to insert the main keyword. SEOSpace stated that my heading contains main keyword but not as a string (means the words are not right next to others). So, simply edit the post title and change the title copy to: "How to Do Squarespace Masonry Gallery Layout?"
Content
SEOSpace suggested having at least one subheading containing the keyword, so I updated an H2 subheading to: "Optimizing Squarespace Masonry Gallery Layout."
I also needed to insert the keyword into the page content, in first 100 words under heading and among the content, so I made the changes based on the recommendations.
Image Alt Text
This is another straightforward instruction. Simply find the image on the page and change its alt text. Edit the image block and change its alt input value to: "Squarespace masonry gallery layout."
Before making last change to the URL, I maded a re-scan on SEOSpace, simply click on the Re-scan button, the SEO Score now increased to 90%!
URL & Redirects
The last change I made was to insert the main keyword into the URL of the page and set a 301 redirect accordingly. I chose the new URL: /squarespace-masonry-gallery-layout-guide
and ensured the URL mapping is set correctly.
Original URL: /blog/how-to-do-masonry-gallery-block-on-squarespace
New URL: /blog/squarespace-masonry-gallery-layout-guide
(301 redirect)
To make URL redirects, go to Settings - Developer Tools - URL Mapping and put in the redirects as below
/blog/how-to-do-masonry-gallery-block-on-squarespace -> /blog/squarespace-masonry-gallery-layout-guide 301
After changing the URL, the page temporarily lost its indexing state. A rescan indicated this issue though the SEO Score remains 90%.
After properly setting the 301 redirects, we just need to wait for Google to reindex the page. I manually did it one time by clicking on the reindex button to resubmit the page to Google. With the help of PageIndexer, I can ensure the updated page content will be indexed after 24 - 48 hours.
Conclusion
Embarking on this SEO journey with SEOSpace has been a game-changer. It’s fascinating to see how targeted keyword optimization and on-page tweaks can significantly impact your website’s visibility. By refining headings, content, image alt texts, and URLs, I’ve taken a significant step towards enhancing my site's performance and search engine ranking.
This process has not only improved my website's SEO but also enriched my understanding of content optimization. I’m excited to apply these strategies to other posts and watch my online presence grow. The power of SEO lies in its details, and with tools like SEOSpace and PageIndexer, these details become manageable and actionable.
